Iowa State women’s basketball associate head coach Jodi Steyer has announced her retirement.
After 24 years with the program, Bill Fennelly’s longtime assistant is stepping away, she announced on Wednesday, April 22. During her time with the program, she has helped lead the Cyclones to several NCAA Tournament appearances and has coached in three Sweet 16s and two Elite Eights. Before joining Fennelly’s staff at Iowa State in 2002, she served as his assistant at Toledo for six seasons.
She was elevated to Iowa State’s associate head coach in 2012.
Steyer said that last offseason, she made the decision that the 2025-26 campaign would be her last. After her dad died in December, she said her choice to step away was reinforced so she could focus on family responsibilities.
“To our players, I have had the opportunity to work with the most amazing young women that inspired me daily. My biggest joy is to call you true friends in our adult life because of our interactions and experiences together,” Steyer wrote in a statement. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being my ‘why’; our memories together are cherished.
“To coach Fen, thank you for giving me my ‘dream job’ not once, but twice. You have been an amazing mentor and friend for 37 years and what I have learned from you goes so far beyond the court- the Iowa State Way is real.”
