KXnO Des Moines laying off hosts as part of iHeartMedia restructuring

KXnO, iHeartMedia’s Des Moines-based sports talk radio station, has laid off a large portion of its on‑air lineup and programming staff.

The news of the layoffs, first reported by Barrett Media on June 23, comes as iHeartMedia embarks on a major restructuring of its programming operation, according to an internal memo from iHeart senior executives. The full number of the layoffs has not been disclosed, but station employees in markets like St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis have also lost jobs in this latest round.

Here’s what to know about the KXnO layoffs.

What KXnO hosts are being laid off?

KXnO has laid off Heather Burnside, Alec Busse, Tyler Allen, Sean Roberts, Lucas Strain and Connor Ferguson, according to social media posts from the affected staffers.

“The 1st Quarter,” hosted by Burnside and Busse, remains on KXnO’s on‑air schedule for the rest of the week but has been removed from the station’s shows list.

Roberts, Strain and Ferguson helmed “Off The Bench,” which airs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. “Off The Bench” also continues to appear on KXnO’s shows list and on‑air schedule for the remainder of the week, and it is not yet clear whether the program will be discontinued.

KXnO did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the changes. The station revamped its weekday lineup last July, shifting several hosts into new time slots and rebranding multiple shows.

Changes come to KXnO’s “Miller and Condon” were also announced when Ken Miller said during the June 22 that he is retiring and that Nick Marovets will become Trent Condon’s new co‑host.

KXnO airs on 1460 AM and 106.3 FM in Des Moines. You can also listen online at kxno.iheart.com.
