Although the Golden State Valkyries’ (9-9) effort fell short against the Atlanta Dream (12-7) by a score of 90-81 on Monday night from Atlanta, Valkyries guard Kate Martin continued her impressive impact off the bench as the former Hawkeye now has scored in the double-digits in four of her last five games.
While Martin’s minutes of action have decreased in recent games, she still was able to contribute 11 points on an efficient 4-for-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from 3-point territory. In addition to her scoring, Martin registered one rebound, one assist, and one steal in her 18 minutes off the bench.
As the Valkyries and Dream traded blows throughout the game on Monday, Martin’s accuracy from beyond the arc helped fuel multple scoring runs for Golden State.
While many Hawkeye fans would like to see Martin get more playing time given her recent scoring boost she provides when on the floor, the second-year pro seems to have no argument with how she is being utilized in her first season in the Bay Area.
Martin and the Valkyries’ next matchup will be against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (9-9) on Wednesday, July 9, from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. That game will tipoff at 11 a.m. CT and will be broadcast on NBA TV.
