Laura Kingrui had never driven a motorhome before this year, but with two brothers taking part in RAGBRAI she was happy to support their ride.
Her brothers Donald, 71, and Tony, 68, live in Michigan but were excited to take part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. They mentioned needing a support driver during a sibling Zoom call and Kingrui was quick to volunteer.
“I love my brothers to death,” Kingrui said. “I’ll do anything for them.”
Iowa is even farther away from Kingrui’s home state of Washington, but she didn’t let that ― or her lack of experience driving a motorhome ― stop her.
She’d driven the motorhome through hills and severe heat for three days and still enjoyed the experience. She said she would “absolutely” go on RAGBRAI again, maybe even as a rider, though she considers herself more of an “ultra-marathon runner” than a biker.
Though Kingrui has met a lot of interesting people from across the country during RAGBRAI, she has found herself especially moved by Iowans offering support during the ride.
“The people of Iowa are just amazing,” Kingrui said. “They welcome us into their homes and take care of us.”
