Iowa wrestling removes three-time Division III champion from roster

Per coach Tom Brands in his weekly media availability on Tuesday, Iowa wrestling has removed 197-pounder Massoma Endene from its roster.

“Sometimes things work, and sometimes they don’t work, and this one just didn’t work out. We wish him the best,” Brands told reporters on Tuesday.

Endene went 6-1 this season, topping three ranked opponents at 197 pounds. The sixth-year wrestler’s career record is 81-2.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Endene transferred to Iowa this season from Wartburg College, where he was a three-time Division III national champion at 197 pounds. The 5-foot-10 grappler began his college journey at Iowa Lakes Community College, where he was a two-time NJCAA All-American and the 2022 NJCAA runner-up.

Fourth-ranked Iowa is readying for its Friday dual against No. 1 Penn State. With Iowa parting ways with Endene, the expectation is the Hawkeyes will turn to either redshirt freshman Brody Sampson or freshman Harvey Ludington at 197 pounds.
