The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team faces a monstrous week ahead. With three games in Big Ten action, Iowa could see a lot of shuffling up and down the conference standings, along with in the NCAA Tournament bracketology projections.
Starting with two road games, Iowa heads to Nebraska and Purdue before coming back to Carver-Hawkeye Arena next Sunday. That game, next Sunday, February 22, has the potential for monstrous implications. ESPN has stamped the game as one of the games in all of women’s college basketball that could be most impactful down the stretch.
Michigan at Iowa
Sunday: noon, Fox (Iowa City, Iowa)
The meat of Michigan’s schedule comes at the end. After hosting Michigan State, the Wolverines travel to Iowa and then Ohio State. Second place in the Big Ten probably will be decided by these two games. The Hawkeyes don’t have a natural matchup for Olivia Olson, so it could be a big game for Michigan’s leading scorer. – Charlie Creme, ESPN
Sitting at 10-3 in Big Ten play, Iowa is chasing down Michigan, which is in second place, behind the UCLA Bruins, with a 13-2 mark in conference play. This game gives Iowa a chance to make some late-season hay in the NCAA Women’s Tournament seeding as well.
With Michigan projecting as a No. 2 seed, a 3-0 week for Iowa, capped with a home win over the Wolverines, could see the Hawkeyes swap seed lines and climb all the way up to a No. 2 seed just ahead of the Big Ten Tournament.
