Iowa women's basketball lands high-scoring DIII transfer portal guard

Iowa women’s basketball is back on the board in the transfer portal, landing a commitment from guard Bria Medina, per the Des Moines Register’s Chad Leistikow.

Medina, who ranked as the second-highest scoring player in all of Division III last season, joins Iowa after spending three years at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., and has one year of eligibility remaining after a stellar junior season.

Last year, the 5-foot-6 point guard from Tucson, Ariz., averaged 23.6 points per game on 46.9% shooting, 35.6% from 3-point range and 86.9% from the free-throw line. Medina also averaged 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for the Prairie Fire.

Even more impressive, she reached 30-plus points five times, including registering a career-high 40 points on Jan. 27.

Throughout her three years at Knox College, she accumulated 1,524 points in 78 games, averaging 19.5 points per game.

She is the fourth transfer portal pickup for the Hawkeyes this cycle, joining Georgia guards Dani Carnegie and Jocelyn Faison and Oklahoma State wing Amari Whiting.

As of May 13, Medina and Whiting will be the only seniors on the squad, which now has 11 total players following the commitment of Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl. Medina and Strömdahl (who arrives as a freshman in 2026-27) both visited Iowa on May 12, per Leistikow.

Leistikow reports that the Hawkeyes’ roster could now be finalized at 11 players.
