Iowa women's basketball comments on Dani Carnegie transfer portal signing

Iowa officially inked its first transfer portal commitment in former Georgia guard Dani Carnegie.

With the signing official, Iowa head women’s basketball coach Jan Jensen was able to share some of her thoughts on the key addition and how the program plans on using the rising junior next season.

“Dani is a great young woman, and we are thrilled she is joining our program. She is a tremendous combo guard and will be a valuable piece heading into next year. Dani is a dynamic three-level scorer that can defend really well. We are really excited about what she brings to the table,” Jensen said of Carnegie.

Carnegie was a first-team All-SEC selection this past season, averaging 17.8 points per game on 42.7% field goal shooting, 35.4% from 3-point range, and 83.3% from the free-throw line.

During her freshman season in the 2024-25 campaign, Carnegie was a phenom at Georgia Tech where she played alongside current Iowa point guard Chit-Chat Wright and was coached by current Iowa assistant coach LaSondra Barrett. During that season, Carnegie averaged 12.9 points per game en route to being named the ACC Sixth Player of the Year and an All-ACC Freshman Team selection.

Carnegie’s signing is a massive win for the program’s backcourt depth. As a result, Iowa eases the offensive load on both Wright and Taylor Stremlow in its backcourt.
