In one season with the Iowa State women’s basketball team, Reese Beaty established herself as the possible heir apparent at the point guard position. Beaty helped fill in for Iowa State starter Jada Williams and played alongside her as well.
The Cyclones will have to find someone else for that role.
Beaty, a freshman guard for the Cyclones this past season, told The Des Moines Register on March 24 that she’s entering the transfer portal. She’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining at her new school.
Beaty, a 5-foot-8 guard from Tennessee, made an instant impact with the Cyclones, appearing in 26 games as a freshman and making two starts. She averaged 4.6 points, 3.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game.
Beaty gave Iowa State another ball-handler and provided the Cyclones with some toughness. Cyclones coach Bill Fennelly constantly praised the toughness part of her game even before Beaty got to Iowa State, saying he thought she could play special teams on the school’s football team.
Her skill set was apparent on the court for the Cyclones. Beaty tallied a season-high 13 points in a win over Sacred Heart.
