Iowa football's wings clipped in latest USA TODAY Sports 1-136 Re-Rank

The Iowa Hawkeyes are looking to find some footing as they have now seen back-to-back slides in rankings through the first two weeks of the 2025 college football season.

Iowa, which began the year receiving votes, remains unranked and no longer receiving votes in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The same precedence is being shown to them in the USA TODAY 1-136 Re-Rank as Week 3 is upon us.

Following a 16-13 loss to Iowa State, who has climbed to No. 12 in these rankings, the Hawkeyes have slid south five more spots and now sit at No. 42 in the country, per USA TODAY Sports. This slide has Iowa sitting among Florida, which lost to USF, Duke, and Pittsburgh, as a collection of teams looking to figure out who they are this year.

This week presents a chance for Iowa to figure some things out offensively, though. The Hawkeyes host their final nonconference game when they welcome UMass, 0-2, to Kinnick Stadium. The Minutemen, who just lost to Bryant, an FCS program, are No. 136 out of 136 teams in the rankings.
