Just weeks after etching his name into Iowa Hawkeyes lore for his game-winning shot over the Florida Gators to send the Hawkeyes to the Sweet 16, Alvaro Folgueiras’ future plans are no longer with Iowa. The forward from Malaga, Spain, is entering the transfer portal at a time when his stock may never be higher.
The decision comes after mulling his options over for a few days and ultimately sees him exploring his options with other opportunities. Folgueiras became a March Madness icon for Iowa after his game-winning three-point shot fell against Florida, and his exclamation point dunk against Nebraska closed out games during the Hawkeyes’ Elite 8 run.
Alvaro Folgueiras, a 6-foot-10 forward, hailing from Spain, spent one season with the Hawkeyes after he transferred in from Robert Morris, where he spent his first two collegiate seasons.
This season, Folgueiras appeared in 37 games for Iowa, while averaging almost 21 minutes per game. He averaged 8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 50% from the field, 33.3% from three-point range, and 76.7% from the free throw line.
