Indiana Fever ink Aliyah Boston to record-setting WNBA contract extension

In a monumental announcement made by the Indiana Fever on April 17, the franchise revealed that they have agreed to a WNBA-record-setting four-year contract extension with cornerstone power forward Aliyah Boston, giving the three-time league All-Star the richest total salary in league history to date.

Per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, the deal is worth $6.3 million in total, with Boston making $1 million this upcoming season and then earning the supermax (accounting for 20% of the team’s total salary cap) from 2027 to 2029.

The extension is the first time any team has used the EPIC provision of the new WNBA collective bargaining agreement, which allows players to effectively replace what they were set to earn in 2026 and to accelerate their ability to reach the maximum earnings amount after previously achieving All-WNBA honors. In Boston’s case, she was made eligible for a max extension in her fourth year after making the All-WNBA second team in 2025.

Since being selected at No. 1 overall by the Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft, Boston has averaged 14.5 points on 54.7% shooting, to go along with 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Despite Indiana being ravaged by injuries during the 2025 campaign, Boston’s career-best season still powered the Fever to the cusp of a WNBA Finals appearance and had her finish tied for sixth in MVP voting while also earning All-Defensive and All-WNBA second-team nods.

This four-year extension will now replace her fourth-year rookie contract salary, which was projected to be $574,612.
