Former Iowa guard Josh Dix agrees to deal with Oklahoma City Thunder

IOWA CITY — After going undrafted, former Hawkeye Josh Dix has agreed to a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, his agency Priority Sports announced on June 24.

Dix spent the first three college seasons playing for Fran McCaffery at Iowa, before transferring to Creighton for his senior campaign.

Dix, a product of Council Bluffs, scored more than 800 points in his Hawkeye career, including a game-winning 3-pointer over Northwestern in December of 2024. Dix averaged a career-high 14.4 points per game during his junior season with the Hawkeyes.

After the coaching change at Iowa, Dix elected to spend his final college season at Creighton. Dix averaged 13.2 points per game in his lone campaign with the Bluejays. He finished his college career shooting 38.4% from deep.

Dix reunites with Iowa teammate Payton Sandfort in the Thunder organization. Oklahoma City signed Sandfort after he went undrafted in 2025. Sandfort played for the organization’s G League affiliate, the OKC Blue, and also appeared sparingly in the NBA for the Thunder last season. Dix and Sandfort were teammates for three seasons at Iowa.

Dix’s signing continues a recent trend of former Iowa players joining Oklahoma City. On the first day of the 2026 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Bennett Stirtz with the 16th overall pick but then traded him to the Thunder. Stirtz was Iowa’s first NBA Draft pick since Kris Murray in 2023 and the program’s highest selection since Keegan Murray went 4th overall in 2022.

Different eras of Iowa basketball are overlapping in Oklahoma City — with Sandfort and Dix playing under McCaffery and Stirtz playing under Ben McCollum.
