Former Iowa football star named to NFL's Top 100 players list

The NFL has been releasing its top 100 players entering the 2025 season. And a former Iowa football star just made the cut.

Every year, the NFL has its players rank their top 100 players in the league. All of those lists are then compiled and put together to get one aggregate ranking, which the NFL reveals each offseason. It’s a great honor to be named to this list, as it shows a lot of respect from your colleagues in the league. It’s an even greater honor to be named to this list after just one year in the league, which is what this former Hawkeye just did.

On Monday, the NFL announced two more additions to its top 100 players of 2025 list. Cooper DeJean was named as the 60th-best player in the entire NFL, according to his fellow players.

DeJean had quite the rookie season with the Philadelphia Eagles last year, totaling 51 tackles, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and six passes defended in the regular season. And then he made one of the biggest plays of the entire season with a 38-yard pick-six off of Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl to help the Eagles stomp the Chiefs and win their second Lombardi Trophy. And he did all of that while playing in a reserve role.

The 2023 Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year is in line to start for the Eagles this season and should see his stats continue to grow. He and Quinyon Mitchell make up one of the best young cornerback duos in the entire league and will play on an Eagles defense that should continue to be elite.

There’s no telling what DeJean’s ceiling as an NFL player is, but it’s an outstanding accomplishment to be named the 60th-best player in the league after your rookie season. The future is bright for the former Hawkeye star.
