Drake football shuts out Valparaiso to earn Bulldogs' second win of the season

Drake football dominated Valparaiso, 41-0, in its Pioneer Football League opener at Drake Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 4.

It was the Bulldogs’ (2-2, 1-0 Pioneer) most complete game of the season, rushing for 150 yards and throwing for 184 while allowing just 105 yards of total offense to the Beacons (1-4, 0-1).

Quarterback Chase Spellman completed 10-of-19 passes for 128 yards and one interception, while Logan Inagawa completed 6-of-7 throws for 56 yards and one touchdown.

The rushing attack was led by the trio of Nick Herman (7 carries, 53 yards, 2 TDs), Inagawa (7 carries, 43 yards) and Jaiden Meizinger (13 carries, 37 yards).

Luke Woodson also added a 2-yard rushing score.

The receiving group was led by Taj Hughes (3 catches, 74 yards), Jackson Voth (5 catches, 49 yards) and Hank Foley (4 catches, 43 yards, 1 TD).

Drake’s defense also forced three takeaways, highlighted by Jacob Auen’s 9-yard pick-six.

Mikey Mangialardi and Benjamin Wilson also tallied one interception each.

The win helped the Bulldogs snap a two-game losing streak. Drake will travel to San Diego (3-3, 1-1) for its Week 7 game at 4 p.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 11.
