Gilbert girls basketball player Callie Hales and Gilbert boys basketball player Matthew Ochalla were voted the Ames Tribune female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Dec. 14-20.
Hales won female Athlete of the Week with 58% of the vote.
She went off for 30 points during Gilbert’s 67-44 loss to Class 4A No. 5 Carlisle on Dec. 19.
Hales made 10 of 19 field goals, including a school-record nine 3-pointers. She was 9 of 15 from downtown.
Ochalla won male Athlete of the Week with 61% of the vote.
He went off on offense to lead Gilbert to a 62-48 victory over Carlisle on Dec. 19.
Ochalla netted a game-high 30 points for the Tigers in the win. He also tallied 11 points and five rebounds in a 60-50 loss to Pella on Dec. 16 at Gilbert.
