Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White announced Friday, June 13, that she expects Caitlin Clark to be “ready to roll” for the team’s game vs. the New York Liberty on Saturday, June 14.
The former Iowa women’s basketball star has missed nearly three weeks and five games due to a quad injury she suffered against the New York Liberty on May 24. The Fever went 2-3 during that stretch, and WNBA television ratings dropped 55%, according to USA Today.
“I think she’s working her way back. I felt like today was better than yesterday in terms of just movement and balance and feeling like she’s getting back into rhythm, timing, all of those things,” White told IndyStar Fever reporter Chloe Peterson on Friday. “As long as we don’t have any regressions, she’s going to be ready to roll.”
Clark also spoke to the media on Friday about how she feels to finally be returning to game action.
“I’m really excited. It’s definitely been a process,” Clark said on Friday. “… It was certainly a learning opportunity and I think it’s going to benefit me a lot throughout my career, just falling back and understanding certain moments like this.
“But I’m super, super excited. I’m antsy to get out there, probably shake off a little bit of rust.”
Clark’s absence was the first extended time away the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has experienced in her college/pro career. The former Hawkeye did not miss a game during her four-year college career and played every game during her first season in the WNBA in 2024.
Clark missed Indiana’s first preseason game on May 3 because of an injury to the same left quad.
The Fever also have been without guard Sophie Cunningham since May 30 with an ankle injury, but she is also expected to return on Saturday.
