Caitlin Clark becomes fastest WNBA player to 4 career triple-doubles

The Indiana Fever stretched their winning streak to five games with a 112-98 victory over the Portland Fire on Friday night. In the process, Caitlin Clark made more WNBA history, becoming the fastest player to record four career triple-doubles.

Clark finished with 26 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in the Friday night win to accomplish the feat.

The Hawkeye great needed only 78 games to reach this milestone, besting Sabrina Ionescu’s mark of 89 games. Clark is also now tied with Sabrina Ionescu for the third most triple-doubles in WNBA history, trailing only Dallas Wings forward Jessica Shepard (five) and Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas (20).

Clark also set another WNBA record early in the first quarter by becoming the league’s fastest player to reach 1,500 career points and 650 assists, doing so in 78 games to beat Sue Bird’s previous mark of 116 games.

Over Indiana’s five-game winning streak, Clark has averaged 29.4 points and 9.0 assists per game.

On the season, the three-time WNBA All-Star is averaging 21.6 points, 8.0 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game on 44.6% field goal shooting, 35.5% from 3-point range, and 86.8% at the free-throw line.

Indiana will look to sweep its three-game road trip on Sunday when it visits former teammate Natasha Howard and the league-leading Minnesota Lynx (24-6). Tipoff for that matchup is scheduled for noon CT and will be broadcast on ABC from inside the Target Center.
