Backed up to the 12th tee, this Norwalk home offers modern living

Backed onto the 12th tee and manicured fairways of Norwalk’s Legacy Golf Club, Realtor Heather Wright encouraged home buyers to look beyond the conventional style of many local properties and consider purchasing a 1,980-square-foot ranch house upgraded with a modern sheen.

“I think the people looking for traditional should have a new thing,” she said.

A custom and high-end design commissioned by the original owner, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom, $685,000 property stands out from its neighbors within the residential Wethersfield Drive cul-de-sac.

A three-car garage faces the street, partitioned by a barn door to create a climate-controlled section previously used as a wood shop. A Tesla charger has been installed and will remain for the next owner.

Inside, the open-plan living area features a gas fireplace below one of the numerous mounted televisions included with the price of the home. Italian tile flooring has been incorporated throughout the main level, and the kitchen centered around a five-stool “waterfall island” and its seamless countertop that extends to the floor.

On one wall, cabinetry conceals more kitchen storage behind an unassuming door. “Everybody loves a hidden pantry,” added Wright.

A dining space faces views of the golf greens, or casual dining can be enjoyed in a corner of the living room.

Two bedrooms are positioned on the main floor. One with its own bathroom and access to a laundry area, and a primary bedroom connected to a walk-in closet, a gleaming bathroom with a soaking tub, and a tiled walk-in shower outfitted with two showerheads and body jets.

The 1,675-square-foot finished basement features two bedrooms with closets and a shared bathroom, plus a large family space with a wet bar, and a pair of extra rooms recently utilized as a home office and gym.

The backyard was created to take full advantage of the golf course scenery while entertaining friends and family. Gas lines have been extended to the covered patio to create a second kitchen,  cooled by a ceiling fan, and equipped with outdoor storage, granite countertops, and a television hung from the roof.

“They’ve also got a gas grill, a Recteq smoker, and a Gozney pizza oven,” Wright explained.

And six chairs easily fit around the uncovered fire pit, a couple of steps from the course’s Kentucky bluegrass perimeter.

Annual fees of $350 are payable to the neighborhood’s homeowners’ association, but membership in the 18-hole public golf course is not a requirement. Nor is a passion for golfing. But the grounds do provide a wide and attractive backdrop that changes with the seasons, and very easy access for new owners who wish to play a few holes.

Located less than two miles from the Norwalk Community School District, a thirty-minute walk to the steadily expanding Norwalk Central development, and easy access north to downtown Des Moines, Wright is enthusiastic about the location and the opportunities for future residents.

“It’s almost like our best-kept secret,” she said.

The home is listed at $685,000 by Heather Wright & Associates at RE/MAX Concepts. Contact Wright at 515-505-1818 for more information and a private showing.
