Ames is about to get a blast of Southern rock warmth in the dead of winter. KHOI Community Radio is rolling out a brand‑new fundraising tradition with an exclusive concert.
The Friday, Feb. 27 performance at the Ames City Auditorium will feature Southbound, a popular Allman Brothers tribute band with a loyal following across Des Moines and Ames.
“Southbound is such a great band with a polished sound and excellent musicians,” Lynne Carey, president of the KHOI Board of Directors, said in a news release. “KHOI is excited to present this special musical experience in the wonderful Ames City Auditorium facility.”
The band has most recently played at Roosevelt Summer Sundays.
The February show marks a fresh addition to KHOI’s fundraising lineup, complementing the station’s long‑running concert at Stephens Auditorium.
Ames turns out for music, community and a good cause
KHOI music events volunteer Ron Carson said the night is about more than great music.
“We hope to see old friends and make some new ones,” he said in a news release. “Our radio station can only thrive through the support and volunteer efforts of the citizens in our listening area: Ames and the surrounding communities.”
Doors open at 6 p.m. on Feb. 27 for VIP and general admission. VIP ticket‑holders get an extra treat — a meet‑and‑greet with the band before the two‑hour show kicks off at 7 p.m. Concessions, including snacks, beer, and wine, will keep the evening festive.
Concert tickets are $5 for students, $15 general admission, and $50 for VIP access, available online at khoifm.org or at the door.
