Nevada girls soccer player Alexa Betting and Roland-Story boys track and field athlete Braden Byersdorfer were voted the Ames Tribune’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of May 10-16.
Betting won female Athlete of the Week honors with 42% of the vote.
She had a huge game on offense for Nevada during a 10-0 rout of Greene County on May 12.
Betting erupted for four goals on the night. She also dished out two assists to help the Cubs improve to 6-4-1 on the season.
Byersdorfer was voted male Athlete of the Week with 58% of the vote.
He qualified for the 2026 Iowa high school girls and boys state track and field meet in the 100-meter wheelchair race.
Byersdorfer qualified during the 2A qualifier meet in Story City on May 14. He finished the race in 43.62 seconds.
