In Hamilton County, two Republicans are battling to be the next sheriff.

John Lowes, chief deputy of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, and Dustin Dixon, a lieutenant with 24 years of experience at the sheriff’s office, are vying to replace Dennis Quakenbush, who is term limited and will conclude his second term as sheriff in 2026.

No Democrats filed to run in the primary election, but the party could still select someone to run in the general election.

The election has caught the attention of Quakenbush and another well-known law enforcement figure, former Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug, who both made endorsements in the race.

Lowes was endorsed by Quakenbush, while Dixon was endorsed by Carter. No Democrats or members of other parties have filed to run, with the general election set for Nov. 3.
