Indianapolis Colts’ rookie tight end Tyler Warren has impressed in his first two NFL games, and that’s probably putting it mildly.
Warren has been featured heavily in the Colts’ offense right out of the gates, which included playing 66 of the team’s 71 offensive snaps against Denver.
In the passing game, Warren has caught 11-of-16 targets for 155 yards at 14.1 yards per catch. Among all tight ends, Warren is currently fifth in receptions, first in yards, and sixth in yards per catch.
However, Warren’s impact has gone well beyond that phase of the game. We’ve seen Warren lined up across the formation, which includes from the slot, out wide, and even in the backfield, allowing Shane Steichen to get him the ball in a variety of ways.
In the run game, he currently has the 11th-best blocking grade at the tight end position, according to PFF’s metrics.
This do-it-all presence opens up the playbook for Steichen because of all the roles Warren can fill. This not only creates opportunities for himself, but for his teammates as well.
