Here’s who is on the ballot in contested local races. (This list does not include precinct committee people or non-local races).

Hamilton County Sheriff

What to know: The sheriff is the top law enforcement officer in the county, and the sheriff’s office manages the county jail and its inmates, serves protective orders and warrants, collects delinquent state incomes taxes and executes the orders of the county government among other responsibilities.

What we’re watching:  No Democrats or candidates from other parties have stepped forward to run for sheriff yet. There’s a history of the Republican primary election for this position turning “toxic” and competing endorsements from well-known law enforcement officials means this could be a competitive election.
