The NFL is counting down the top 100 receptions of the 2025 season, and kicking off the rankings were the Indianapolis Colts at No. 100.
However, the play is probably not one you’re thinking of. It’s not a downfield pass from Daniel Jones to Alec Pierce or Josh Downs picking up a crucial first down.
Instead, it was Anthony Richardson completing a pass to … Anthony Richardson.
Facing the Las Vegas Raiders, the Colts held a 40-6 fourth-quarter lead. So with 9:23 left in the game, Richardson was in for Jones.
On 2nd-and-2, Richardson took the snap from shotgun. He faked the handoff, then turned to his left for a short pass just beyond the first down marker.
The pass, however, was batted up in the air. Richardson would catch it at the line of scrimmage, picked up a few yards before he was wrapped up, and the Colts’ offensive line then pushed him for an additional gain. Richardson ended up picking up about nine yards on the play.
In clean-up duty last season, Richardson appeared in only two games before landing on injured reserve with an orbital fracture. Richardson was 1-for-2 on passing attempts on the year, totaling nine yards.
Although Richardson’s trade request is still on the table, he is currently competing with Riley Leonard for the backup quarterback role.
