Two men killed in head-on collision, Evansville man arrested

EVANSVILLE — An Evansville man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and causing the deaths of two men and the injury of another in a head-on collision.

Lindsey Baxter, 29, faces two counts of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated causing Death, a Level 4 Felony, and one count of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated causing Serious Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony.

According to an Indiana State Police report, just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday Baxter was driving westbound on State Road 66 east of CR 400 West near Reo, In., in a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck “when for unknown reasons (he) drove left of center and collided into a 2014 Toyota Corolla that was traveling eastbound.”

The driver of the Toyota, Larry Lindsey, 54, of Rockport, and a passenger in the rear seat, 64-year-old Barry Morris of Whitesville, Kentucky, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police. A second passenger in the Toyota, Jonathan Hurm, 49, of Owensboro, was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville but was later transferred to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis to be treated for injuries.

Baxter was taken to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, where he was treated and released, state police reported. The Spencer County Prosecutor’s Office issued a felony arrest warrant for Baxter.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section arrested Baxter at his home in Evansville, according to state police. He was transported to the Spencer County Jail, the agency said.State Road 66 was closed for about two and a half hours while the collision was being investigated, according to state police.
