Tournament MVPs, clutch games. Vote for HS boys basketball player of week

Get your votes in by noon Friday for high school boys’ basketball top performer for the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 3:

Marrius Harris, Evansville Bosse: The senior had a big week to help Bosse to a third-place showing at the Fishers Tournament. Harris had 18 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 67-55 win over Columbus North, had 19 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 73-56 loss to New Albany and 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a 69-61 win over Evansville North.

Brody Hartman, Triton Central: The sophomore stepped up in a big way in Triton Central’s 52-43 win over Class 3A No. 3 Roncalli, going for 11 points and five rebounds on 3-for-3 shooting from the 3-point line.

Jayvon Irby, Fort Wayne South: The junior guard banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Archers to a 50-47 win over Delta in the championship of the Delta Tournament. Irby finished with 17 points on 3-for-5 shooting from the 3-point line. Irby also had 19 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 76-50 win over Western and 25 points and five rebounds in a 58-46 win over Scecina.

Tyrese Jones, South Bend Riley: The senior guard helped Riley to a runner-up showing at the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament in Kokomo. He had 23 points, three assists and two steals in a 55-54 win over New Haven, then put up 31 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals as Riley handed Lawrence North its first loss, 67-52. In a 43-38 loss to Northridge in the championship, Jones had 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

JaShawn Ladd, Ben Davis: The senior and Akron commit was named MVP of the Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond as the Giants captured the championship with a 62-56 win over Shelbyville. Ladd had 17 points and five assists in the win. He was 14-for-24 from the field in the three wins, going for 37 points total.

Amarian Leggett, Blackford: Leggett, a sophomore, scored 36 points to hold off a second half rally from Randolph Southern for a 63-57 win over Randolph Southern in the championship of the Central Indiana Holiday Classic. Blackford is 9-0.

Carter McQuigg, Floyd Central: McQuigg hit the game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation of an eventual 65-62 overtime loss to Center Grove. McQuigg finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

Blake Neill, Bloomfield: The senior became the all-time leading scorer in the history of the First Financial Wabash Valley Classic. In wins over Edgewood (60-37) and Sullivan (62-46), Neill went for 27 points and 31 points, respectively. Bloomfield is 8-2.

Treigh Schelsky, Parke Heritage: The senior guard was named the Gary Fears Most Outstanding Player of the First Financial Wabash Valley Classic. Schelsky scored 32 points (4-for-9 from 3), six rebounds in a 58-54 overtime win over Northview in the semifinal, then had 14 points in a 56-50 overtime loss to Terre Haute North in the championship.

Brady Scholl, Northridge: The senior Indiana Wesleyan recruit set a tournament record with 40 points in a 76-64 win over Merrillville in the first round of the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament in Kokomo. He was 14-for-17 shooting with 12 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists. Scholl also had 30 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots in a 76-61 win over Kokomo in the semifinal and nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in a 43-38 win over South Bend Riley in the championship.

Dane Sprigler, Silver Creek: The senior point guard was MVP of the Ray Furney Tournament in Lawrenceburg, setting a school record with nine 3-pointers in an 81-51 win over West Lafayette Harrison in the first round. He went for 29 points in that game, then 18 points in a 63-47 win over Bloomington South and 25 points in a 79-67 win over Plainfield in the championship. Sprigler was 21-for-30 from the 3-point line in the three wins. He had 11 steals for the tourney and just two turnovers.

Kingston Rhodes, Crown Point: The senior guard went for 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting (3-for-4 from 3 and 4-for-4 from free-throw line), two rebounds, one assist and one steal in an 81-70 win over Hamilton Southeastern. The Bulldogs stayed unbeaten, including wins over Cathedral and Brownsburg. For the week, he totaled 42 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals (13-for-25 shooting from field and 13-for-15 from free-throw line).

Daniel Thomas, Tri-West: The sophomore guard was named MVP of the Switzerland County Holiday Tournament as he led the Bruins with 15 points, 15 points and 13 points, respectively, in wins over Henryville (80-41), Franklin County (56-42) and Mt. Vernon (Posey) (61-42). Thomas also had three assists in all three games.

Mason Trammell, Yorktown: The junior led Yorktown to the championship of the Greenwood Tournament, hitting a step back 3-pointer and finishing with 25 points in a 61-58 win over host Woodmen in the championship game. He also had 13 points in a 52-39 win over Columbus East. He averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in the two wins.

T.J. Williams, Purdue Poly Englewood: In four games at the Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond, Williams averaged 26.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He followed that by scoring 25 points and 28 points in wins over Southmont and Clinton Central to win the Clinton Central Tournament. Williams is averaging 26.5 points per game.

Cooper Zachary, Fishers: The junior guard was named MVP of the Fishers Tournament as the Class 4A top-ranked Tigers defeated Fort Wayne Wayne (99-53), Evansville North (72-36) and New Albany (81-60). Zachary had 21 points, six assists and four steals in the championship game, including 16 points in the second half. He went for 14 points in a 72-36 win over Evansville North.
