In a ruling that shocked the college football world, Texas Tech quarterback Brandan Sorsby was ruled eligible to play as reported by Pete Thamel this coming season, only having to serve a two-game suspension for gambling while playing for Indiana.
It very much seems that the decision wasn’t done in a fair manner, as the judge who made the ruling was in the Lubbock district. With rumors that Notre Dame and the Red Raiders could potentially face each other if Texas opts out of its games in 2028 and 2029, the question is if the game should be scheduled.
Sure, it makes plenty of sense for the Irish to add another marquee matchup to its slate, but with the way this was handled it might not be the best move. The win-at-all-cost mentality has put Texas Tech in a peculiar spot, boosters for the school, with its own conference, the Big 12 and also the Big Ten and SEC, specifically Georgia, having big issues with how this was handled.
I think that Notre Dame should follow suit and not entertain the idea of playing Texas Tech, as they’ve put a big black eye on the sport. The Irish hold themselves to a very high standard, and adding the Red Raiders to any future schedules would be a signal that they are fine with how this all went down.
If their own conference is suggesting not playing games against them, then Notre Dame should follow suit and do the same. At this point it’s not about having a top-25 team on the schedule, it’s about the integrity of the game, which clearly Texas Tech doesn’t have.
