INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said he will not be with the team for its games against the Nets in Brooklyn on Thursday and against the 76ers at home on Friday so he can visit his daughter Abby for her sorority Kappa Kappa Gamma’s spring parents formal at the University of Virginia. He said the absence had been cleared with owner Herb Simon and president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard and that lead assistant coach Lloyd Pierce will lead the team in his absence. He will return for the season finale on Sunday.
Carlisle has made a point in the past to step away for his daughter’s life milestones. He also missed a game for her high school cheerleading team’s senior night and a preseason game this past October for Kappa Kappa Gamma’s fall parents formal. Pierce has also taken over the team in those circumstances. He was the head coach with the Atlanta Hawks from 2018-21.
