Live Christmas trees are what some families still prefer for the holidays and Ratkovich Farm has trees and much more at its farm. But anyone who wants a tree should shop early because once all the trees that are 7 feet and taller are sold, the farm will have no more trees this season.
Field-cut trees start at about 10 feet and are mostly white pines. There’s a small selection of firs and spruce as well. There are no pre-cut firs this year.

In addition to trees, the farm has wreaths of all sizes staring at about $23. The gift shop has more — holiday items from local vendors. And for people outside looking at trees, there’s a snack shack and bonfire on weekends.
Scott and his wife, Ashley Ratkovich, operate the farm, with Ashley running the gift shop. They bought the farm in 2017. Bobby Eads, father of Ashley, said this is the first year that all the trees old enough for sale are trees that Ashley planted. The couple sell flowers in the summer.
The farm is open on the weekends to the public. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. It’s open appointment-only Monday through Friday. Customers are asked to park beside the driveway, not in the field.
Ratkovich Farm is east of Bedford and just west of Fayetteville, at 413 Fayetteville-Owensburg Road. For more information, call 812-272-9229 or go to Ratkovich Farm on Facebook.
