WINCHESTER, IN — A former Randolph County funeral home director has been indicted on 64 counts of theft.

Randolph County Prosecutor David Day said Zalo J. Wilson Jr., 61, of Lynn, is accused of stealing money that had been set aside for prepaid funeral plans held by 64 victims.

Each of the alleged thefts is reported to be between $750 and $50,000, with the total amount stolen in excess of $500,000, the prosecutor said in a news release Monday, March 2.

A Randolph County grand jury, which heard evidence on Feb. 11, returned the indictments, which remained sealed until Monday.

Wilson was arrested on Friday, Feb. 27, by authorities in Maine, who served an arrest warrant issued locally.

“The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department played a key role in investigating the alleged thefts and in locating Mr. Wilson’s whereabouts in Maine,” Daly said.

The Lynn, Farmland and Union City police departments also assisted in the investigation.

“We all are awaiting his return to Indiana,” the prosecutor said in the release.

Wilson was associated with Wilson-Shook Funeral Homes in Parker City and other Randolph County communities.

An official with the Indiana Funeral Directors Association has said the victims in the Randolph County case will receive the funeral-related services they paid for.
