WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue football coaches have been mum about where Boilermaker quarterbacks stand.
Throughout fall camp, it became evident Purdue’s new quarterback wasn’t all that new.
Ryan Browne, who transferred to North Carolina after last season, only to return to Purdue after one semester, is the Boilermaker signal caller.
Purdue head coach Barry Odom made the announcement after Thursday’s practice.
How Ryan Browne became Purdue football’s starting quarterback
Throughout the spring, a quarterback battle included the returning Bennett Meredith, Arkansas transfer Malachi Singleton, Washington State transfer Evans Chuba, and Central Florida transfer EJ Colson. After the spring, Colson entered the transfer portal, and the Boilermakers welcomed back Browne.
Browne, Singleton, Meredith, and Chuba were all considered and split reps early in fall camp.
Following two Saturday scrimmages that were closed to the media, Browne assumed the first rep duties in all drills starting Monday.
In limited playing time, including two starts, Browne is 55 of 92 for 636 yards, 4 TDs, and 2 interceptions. The redshirt sophomore also has rushed for 240 career yards, including 118 in his first career start last season at Illinois.
