Portions of 6 Monroe County roads closed due to flooding

With recent rains the creeks are rising and muddle puddles are forming. According to the National Weather Service, a chance of thunderstorms on Friday night, (90% chance) and again on Sunday, May 10, (70% chance) may bring more rain to the region. AccuWeather reports show the Bloomington area has received 16.15 inches of rain this month, which is above the average of 12.83 inches. And Lake Monroe is more than 6 inches above its normal pool level.

Because of the rainfall, some area roads have flooded. High water closings can and do change based on weather conditions.

The Monroe County Highway Department advises motorists to be aware of changing weather conditions and monitor flood and flash flood watches and warnings. Do not cross water-covered roads — the advise is “Turn around, don’t drown.”
