NWS: Central Indiana to finally get some relief from scorching temperatures

After weeks of scorching temperatures, central Indiana will finally feel the first signs of fall.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the high temperature on Aug. 21 will be 79 degrees. While Aug. 22 and Aug. 23 will both see high temperatures in the mid-to-low 80s, projected overnight lows will dip into the 60s overnight.

Beginning on Aug. 24, a cold front coming to the area will pull high temperatures down to the mid-70s, and overnight temperatures will fall in the 50s.

Compare that to the last 10 days, where the average daily temperature has been around 89 degrees, dropping to around 70 at night.

It’s too early to say whether the cooler temperatures will stick around beyond the next week, NWS meteorologist Jason Puma said, but for the time being, more comfortable weather is on the horizon.

Usually the first day of the season with temperatures below 50 degrees falls on Sept. 10 for Indianapolis. Based on the current pattern, there’s a 20% chance that day could come as early as Aug. 26,

There’s always some variability in weather patterns, Puma said, and the cooler temperatures are still in the realm of what’s considered normal for this time of year.
