Notre Dame football is set to kick off its 2025 season Sunday night at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., against the Miami Hurricanes.
The Irish, ranked No. 5 in the USA Today preseason poll, are coming off a runner-up finish in last year’s College Football Playoff, losing to Ohio State in the national championship to finish with a 14-2 record.
The Hurricanes are ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll, lost 42-41 in the Pop-Tarts Bowl last season and had a 10-3 overall record.
Sunday night marks the 28th meeting between the two teams, with the Irish leading the series 18-8-1.
After 18 days of competition, redshirt freshman C.J. Carr was named the starting quarterback last week over third-year reserve Kenny Minchey.
Notre Dame hopes for a return trip to Hard Rock Stadium this season as the venue is the host site of the 2026 College Football Playoff Championship on January 19, 2026.

SBT Staff predictions for Notre Dame football vs. Miami today
Mike Berardino, Notre Dame football beat reporter: Notre Dame 24, Miami 17. Irish defense picks off Carson Beck twice, sets up CJ Carr for successful debut.
Tom Noie, columnist: Notre Dame 24, Miami 20. CJ Carr doesn’t have to be the all-everything quarterback in this one. Not with that defense. Not with that run game. Not in that environment. Notre Dame knows well how to do this dance.
Kyle Smedley, sports reporter: Notre Dame 27, Miami 17. Despite what is sure to be a hot crowd in a Week 1 rivalry game on the road, the Fighting Irish’s coaching, run game and defense will prove too much for the Hurricanes.
Austin Hough, sports editor: Notre Dame 21, Miami 20. Is the team good enough around CJ Carr to win a top 10 road game? I think so. Irish in a close one.
