Notre Dame football makes top-5 for elite 2027 Illinois linebacker

Notre Dame football has made its neighboring state of Illinois quite the recruiting pipeline, and it looks like that won’t be stopping anytime soon.

The Irish saw on Thursday that its momentum in the state is still very good as 2027 linebacker Roman Igwebuike named them along with Indiana, Clemson Missouri and Tennessee in his final group of school. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 220-pounder is one of the best players in the country, ranking as the No. 149 overall player in the 247Sports Composite.

Igwebuike is an elite player, one that I have seen firsthand this past season. Playing for a powerhouse in Mount Carmel, the program is littered with top-end talent and while Notre Dame hasn’t been able to lure any of them to South Bend, he could be changing that. The Caravan also have wide receiver Quentin Burrell and cornerback Tavares Harrington, who are both high on the Irish, and the trio could be looking to play together at the next level.

As of right now, Igwebuike has yet to schedule an official visit to Notre Dame, but that could change in the coming months as his recruitment is nearing an end. It’s a short drive from the South Side of Chicago to South Bend, and that could play a big role in his final decision.
