Notre Dame football makes final-five for elite 2027 edge rusher

Notre Dame football isn’t backing down from recruiting battles against other top teams, and on Monday found out that it is still in the mix for one of the top uncommitted players of the 2027 class.

Connecticut edge Mekai Brown announced his top-5 on Monday, as the Irish remain an option along with Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Ohio State and USC. It’s a list of five teams who have recently made the College Football Playoff with the exception of the Trojans.

In an interview with 247Sports (subscription required), the 6-foot, 7-inch and 230-pound prospect told Brian Dohn that his ultimate goal is to make the NFL. Brown said “it is down to the point where every one of these schools could put me in the league. It’s not like a huge drop off with any of them.”

Dohn also reports that the nation’s No. 49 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite may not take official visits. Brown has seen enough of his finalist to make a decision, one that he has yet to set a date for. Notre Dame is seemingly in a good spot with him, and if Brown ends up scheduling officials, it will be very telling where the Irish stand with him.
