INDIANAPOLIS – IndyCar has officially postponed the beginning of Indianapolis 500 qualifying to Sunday due to rain. The position of all 33 cars in the field will be determined in one day, rather than the typical two-day format.
Practice will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday with qualifying beginning at noon with each car receiving one attempt to make the Top 12.
There is a chance for rain early Sunday morning but it’s clear beginning at 9 a.m. with a high of 84.
Top 12 will begin at 4:30 p.m., with Fast Six at approximately 6 p.m. The first round with all 33 cars will be broadcast on FS2, while the Top 12 and Fast Six will be on Fox.
Per IndyCar PR, all tickets and paid parking from Saturday will be honored on Sunday. Suite and hospitality tickets will allow general admission access, but not access to their suite or hospitality space.
The rain has caused IndyCar and Indianapolis Motor Speedway to alter its qualifying schedule for the second time. Earlier this week, it was announced that the 15-fastest cars on Saturday would advance to Sunday, with a Final 15 round consisting of cars 10-15, followed by a Top 12 round, then the Fast Six to determine the pole winner and first two rows of the race.
Now, qualifying will begin at noon on Sunday, with each car receiving one attempt to make the Top 12. The Final 15 round has been shelved.
