A Bloomington film company is seeking thousands of extras for “Little Five,” a movie about the first Women’s Little 500 race that begins filming this month on and around the Indiana University campus.
Pigasus Pictures co-owner Gordon Strain said the filmmakers want real Bloomington residents — not computer-generated crowds — to help recreate the first Women’s Little 500 race.
He said many Bloomington residents still remember serving as extras in films such as “Breaking Away” and “Hoosiers.”
“We’ve come to Bloomington to do this because we have a connection to Bloomington, and we want to involve the community,” Strain said.
In social media videos promoting the casting call, Strain and Pigasus CEO Zach Spicer emphasized the scale of the crowds they hope to recreate.
“We need thousands of extras to fill Bill Armstrong Stadium,” Spicer says, “And Assembly Hall,” Strain adds. “And downtown Bloomington,” Spicer says as he points westward down Kirkwood Avenue, while Strain can be seen jumping in the background with his arms raised.
In another social media clip, two of the movie’s actresses, Ariana Greenblatt and Rain Spencer, invite Hoosiers to participate. “Hey Indiana, come be a part of Little Five,” Greenblatt says, while wearing a bicycle helmet. “We have over 8,000 extras, but we want you, too,” Spencer says.
“We need extras every day of the week,” Spicer says.
The biggest days for which the filmmakers need extras are July 25 at Assembly Hall and Aug. 2 at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Shooting in Bloomington is expected to continue through Aug. 12 before shifting to Chicago.
