Legendary musician and comedian 'Weird Al' Yankovic is coming to Evansville

EVANSVILLE – A legendary comedian and musician is slated to perform at Evansville’s Ford Center next summer.

“Weird Al” Yankovic will play the Downtown arena on June 16 as part of his “Bigger & Weirder Tour,” both his and Ford Center’s website states. Artist presale tickets began Tuesday morning.

Yankovic, 66, has been crafting parody songs and his own originals since he got his start on the Dr. Demento show as a teenager back in the 1970s. He’s since lampooned everyone from Nirvana and Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga and Coolio.

Yankovic last came through the area earlier this year for a show at Beaver Dam in Kentucky. He’s also played Evansville’s Victory Theatre multiple times over the years.

He made a cameo in this year’s remake of “The Naked Gun,” 37 years after doing the same in the Leslie Nielsen original in 1988. And in 2022 he received the full biopic treatment when Daniel Radcliffe portrayed him in “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.” Though, in true Weird Al fashion, it parodied the genre’s conventions instead of sticking to them.

His long career has caused his fans to launch fervent pushes to get Yankovic inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and land him a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The latter came true in 2018, while the former is still up in the air. In a 2013 interview with the Courier & Press, he said he was more than flattered by the attention.

“The fact that fans have spent so much time and effort to make them happen,” he said, “to me, that in and of itself is the reward.”
