The last officer-involved shootings in Lawrence
The last officer-involved shooting in Lawrence occurred April 27, when police were called to the intersection of North Richardt Avenue and East 47th Street about an armed person in the area. A 911 caller told dispatch they saw a woman pointing a gun at another woman. Officers arrived and heard sounds coming from a detached garage near a home in the area with a light on.
After opening the garage, they found a woman inside yelling and holding a small dog in her left arm with a gun in her right hand. Officers gave multiple verbal commands for the woman to show her hands, and according to police she refused.
She then shot and killed the dog and raised the gun toward her head and pointed it at officers, a news release states.
