Lawrence Central's Kyle Guy released by Boom to pursue overseas offer

INDIANAPOLIS — The Noblesville Boom have released guard Kyle Guy by way of contract buyout to allow the former Lawrence Central High School star and 2016 Indiana Mr. Basketball to pursue a lucrative offer to play overseas, a league source told the IndyStar on Thursday.

Scott Agness of the Fieldhouse Files first reported the news. Guy did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment.

Guy had retired from playing basketball after five professional seasons in the NBA, G League and European leagues and was working as an assistant coach at Nevada under former Indiana star Steve Alford when he came back to Indiana in late September to play in a 3-on-3 event at Arsenal Tech High School. Video from his performance there went viral and the Pacers offered him an Exhibit 10 contract, which meant he would get a bonus for playing for the Boom, the Pacers’ G League affiliate. His return to play has been excellent as he leads the Boom with 21.1 points and 7.5 assists per game this season. He’s also averaging 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game and shooting 45.2% from the floor and 37.2% from 3-point range.

Guy earned All-America honors at Virginia and helped lead the Cavaliers to the 2019 national title. He has appeared in 53 total NBA games with the Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat and also played for the Cavaliers’ G League team. He’s averaging 21.2 points per game in his G League career and averaged double-figure scoring for clubs in Spain and Greece.
