LAFAYETTE, IN — A 19-year-old Lafayette man is receiving medical treatment for what police believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound from Sunday night, according to Lafayette police.
When he’s released, Jalen Jackson will be arrested on suspicion of being a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm and false informing, police said.
Jackson showed up at a Lafayette hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm, police said. Their investigation determined that Jackson was in a car in the area of Twyckenham Boulevard and Poland Hill Road with a group of people when he was shot just before 8 p.m. Sunday. Police said they later found a gun they believe was used in the shooting in the area of Brady Lane and Concord Road.
Court records show Jackson was convicted in 2024 of a single count of robbery in a plea agreement in which several other counts, including armed robbery, were dismissed. Indiana Department of Correction records show he was released from prison in January.
The investigation also led to the arrest of JaéVion Xavier Gibson, 19, of the 2500 block of Thornhill Circle in Lafayette. Police jailed Gibson on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm by a dangerous person and obstruction of justice.
Gibson also has two pending cases from April: charges of dangerous control of a firearm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor from an incident in May 2025 in which prosecutors say he provided handguns to a 17-year-old passenger in his car; and charges of battery for allegedly attacking a jail inmate in April that police say was possibly gang-related.
His trial on both of those pending cases is July 22, according to court records.
