Jeremy Clark let go as Eastern Greene girls basketball coach

The superintendent and school board at Eastern Greene decided to go a different direction with its varsity girls basketball program, deciding not to renew Jeremy Clark as head coach.

Clark went 12-32 in his two seasons as head coach, taking over after head coach Joe Pigg departed following a 13-11 season in 2023-24.

“I got no feedback,” Clark said. “They told me they would not renew my option if it came up for a vote.

“I wanted to come back. I had a whole lot of things planned for the off-season.”

The ‘off-season’ turned out to be the hardest part of the job.

“I would say the biggest challenge was the culture that existed at the school,” Clark said. “We had low attendance at open gyms over the spring and summer and in the weight room. It was difficult to get kids to buy in and families to buy in to what was going on.

“In season, they were focused on just doing basketball and they gave it their full attention and they were coachable kids. But the off-season and being in the weight room is where you build discipline that shows up later in the off-season.”

Clark noted the previous coach had similar issues but he will move on.

“I was thankful to always have the support of the principal and the AD,” Clark said. “When I wanted to do some things with the elementary programs, they were always on board for that. We had stepped up the participation there.’

Clark said he is pursuing an assistant coach position with another area girls basketball program and will continue to be an assistant with the Bloomington South girls golf team.

Meanwhile, Eastern Greene is still looking for a head volleyball coach.

North football search

Bloomington North athletic director Andy Hodson said he did not have a name ready for the MCCSC schoolboard meeting on Tuesday, March 23 in its search for a new football coach.

Brett Cooper stepped down early last month to take the job at Ben Davis after being hired last July.

North is looking for its fourth different head coach in four seasons, still going 24-8 the past three seasons. The new coach will lead the Cougars in their first year in the Mid-State Conference.

Gymnastics coaches sought

MCCSC has posted the positions of head gymnastics coach at both North and South for next season.

Both schools were unable to find coaches for the 2025-26 season and were unable to field teams, leaving Edgewood as the only area squad to compete.
