Literacy rates of Hoosier students are still on the rise, according to new data reported by the Indiana Department of Education.
The department released IREAD results for the 2025-26 school year on Aug. 11. While the passing rate for one Indianapolis schools dipped below one-third, some schools reported that all of their students had passed the test.
The department reported about 88.7% of third graders tested were proficient in reading, a step up from last year’s 87.3%.
The passing rate for students attending private schools was 8 percentage points higher than the rate for public school students. Female students performed better than male students. Students receiving free and reduced lunches had a lower passing rate than students with paid lunches.
Here’s a breakdown of how schools in Marion and Hamilton County performed.
Beech Grove City Schools
About 74% of Beech Grove City Schools students passed the IREAD assessment.

About 95% of Hamilton Heights students passed the IREAD assessment.

Roughly 97% of Hamilton Southeastern Schools students passed the IREAD assessment.

About 89% of Franklin Community School students passed the IREAD test.
