Christopher Enoch Cook, 37, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 10, on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated battery.

According to Melissa Criswell, deputy chief of the Muncie Police Department, officers were sent to a reported dispute at a home in the 2800 block of South Brotherton Street at 3:51 a.m. Wednesday.

Police found no “ongoing dispute” at that address, Criswell said, but a short time later they were told that a 52-year-old man had arrived at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital with multiple stab wounds.

According to an affidavit, the victim had nine wounds, including those found on his back, shoulder and forearm. He told police he did not know who stabbed him but said he had gotten into an altercation with Cook, who he described as a friend.

The deputy chief said MPD detectives “worked thoroughly on the case, completing multiple interviews and an execution of a search warrant.”

That work eventually resulted in Cook’s arrest. Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman’s office will determine whether formal charges will be filed.

Cook told police he and the other man had fought, but he denied stabbing him.

According to Criswell, the stabbing victim was reported to be in stable condition.

Court records reflected Cook, formerly of Marion, has been convicted of crimes including dealing in cocaine, intimidation, perjury, possession of cocaine, resisting law enforcement and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
