With high speed comes danger on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval as 34 drivers prepared for the 2025 Indianapolis 500 on May 25.
Here are the crashes leading up to the race.
Colton Herta crash
Colton Herta spun in Turn 1 on a qualifying run, and the rear struck the outside wall as the car briefly became airborne.
The car came to rest in Turn 2 nearly upside down. After the track safety team rights the damaged car, Herta climbed out on his own.

Kyle Larson crash
Kyle Larson hit the Turn 3 wall Friday afternoon, but only his front and rear wings were damaged. After his Arrow McLaren/Hendrick team replaced those, he returned to the track for a shakedown lap at low speed. He was confident he would be ready for qualifying.
