High school football and flag football matchups set to highlight Circle City Classic

High school football will take center stage at this year’s Circle City Classic.

The Indiana Black Expo, which organizes the event, has traditionally built the weekend festivities around a college football game involving two teams from historically black colleges/universities since it was established in 1984.

This year, it will be high school teams instead.

The games at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 26 will begin with girls’ flag football, which is one of the fastest-growing sports among Indiana High School Athletic Association schools and around the country. Crispus Attucks will play Tech at 10 a.m., followed by a game at 11:30 a.m. between Lawrence North and Ben Davis.

The girls’ flag football games will be followed by two high school football games: Warren Central vs. Pike at 2 p.m. and Lawrence North vs. Ben Davis at 7 p.m.

All four programs are members of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference. Pike and Ben Davis were originally scheduled to host the Week 6 games.

The 42nd annual Circle City Classic is expected to feature many of the traditions of previous events, including a parade, education day (college fair), a tailgate and fan festival with live music, battle of the bands, talent day (career fair) and a coaches’ luncheon.
