The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Lafayette area for Thursday, July 24.
The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Heat index values are expected to be up to 106 in portions of central, east central, north central, south central and southeast Indiana.
The service warns that hot temperatures and high humidity might cause illnesses.
Weather forecast
Wednesday’s forecast is for a sunny and hot day with a high near 91 and a low around 74.
Thursday will be sunny and hot with a high near 92 and heat index values as high as 107. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m.
Air quality alert
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has also declared an air quality alert in effect in the area until midnight Wednesday, July 23.
Ozone levels are expected to be in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.” Active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exposure.
