Indiana goes for major college football’s first 16-0 season against Miami in the College Football Playoff national championship game.
You won’t remember the season the Hoosiers are trying to match.
Yale ran the table over 16 games in 1894, in a season today’s fans wouldn’t recognize.
The Bulldogs played all their games between late September and Dec. 1, seven times playing on a Saturday and also the following Wednesday. Opponents included later Ivy League foes Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton, several colleges that now play at a lower level and five athletic clubs not directly affiliated with a college.
Army gave the Bulldogs their toughest test in a 12-5 game, two opponents scored 4 points and Yale shut out the other 13. The Bulldogs outscored their opponents a cumulative 485-13.
North Dakota State, led by quarterback Trey Lance, went 16-0 in 2019 on the way to the Football Championship Series national championship.

Has Indiana ever won a national championship in football?
This is the most successful season in Indiana football history, by far. The Hoosiers made the College Football Playoff last season but lost in the first round to Notre Dame. IU earned a Rose Bowl berth in the 1967 season, losing to No. 1 USC 14-3.
Coming into this season, Indiana had the most losses in major college football history (715), and it’s now second to Northwestern (718).
Before this season, IU last won a bowl/postseason game in 1991 and is 5-10 all-time in bowl/postseason games.
